It is easy to imagine how Denis Diderot and other great French intellectuals of the 18th century sat hunched over their manuscripts in the light of their candlesticks and struggled for Enlightenment. The Sigor Nudiderot is an homage to a lamp shape that was particularly popular at the time – and which then spread to the whole world in the wake of the Empire style: the Bouillotte lamp. And so today, as in the past, it is a truth universally acknowledged that clever minds can also be recognized by the lamp on their table.
